HazWoper - Full Course
Designed specifically for the personnel working at an agricultural facility, this training course meets the OSHA requirement found in 1910.120(q) for Technician Level (24 hours) and Incident Command Level (8 hours) training. It provides the information and skills needed to recognize, evaluate and control an incident involving the release, or potential release, of hazardous substances typically found at an agrichemical facility. With a combination of classroom work and lots of hands-on exercises and scenarios, this course focuses on:

  • Coordinating emergency responses with the regulatory agencies
  • Recognizing and evaluating an incident
  • Organizing a response effort
  • Protecting response personnel
  • Identifying and utilizing response resources
  • Using proper spill reporting procedures
  • Implementing basic control measures
  • Developing and refining decision-making skills
  • Implementing an emergency response plan

Upon successful completion of the course, participants can:
  • Participate in decision-making with emergency response teams and regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA and DOT.
  • Select appropriate PPE for responding to a hazardous substance incident.
  • Use confinement and containment techniques to control releases.
  • Analyze release or other emergency response situations.
  • Exercise proper spill reporting procedures.
  • Assess potential risks of emergencies.
  • Understand the basic operation of atmospheric testing.
  • Understand issues associated with hazardous wastes and proper disposal.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Billy Basham leads both the Emergency Response to Agricultural Incidents Course (HazWoper) and the Refresher Course. Billy has completed over 2,000 hours of “train the trainer” training, where he encountered all manners of ag chemical spills. He has more than 13 years of experience as a HazWoper Instructor, and between the two courses, he trains a few thousand participants per year.
