Applicator Training Course for New Applicators - Up to 3 Years Experience
About This Training
One of the greatest challenges farm centers face today is hiring and properly training the special group of employees known as professional applicators. These individuals must possess an expertise of math, measurements, chemistry and use of technology, including the role of customer service. This course is intended for students with little or no background in custom application. AGCO and the Asmark Institute have developed this course specifically for new applicators with up to three years of experience. Comprehensive and well rounded, this hands-on course is offered to help farm center management meet the challenges of training high quality personnel.
About The Instructors
Combined experience, the instructors for this cutting edge course have more than 90 years. Greg Yoder is the lead instructor assisted by Gary Cornell. Both instructors are seasoned professionals from within the ag industry and both started their careers as professional applicators in the early 70’s. The team of Greg and Gary bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the course.
Hands-on Training
Training is conducted at a dedicated facility specifically designed for this training purpose. Ten acres serve as the proving grounds for this state-of-the-art training facility. A mile of all-weather track has been strategically designed to provide the most realistic hands-on driving experience possible. More than a million dollars in equipment is used to facilitate this unique learning process over the four day course. A variety of exercises reinforce the learning process and help to familiarize the participants with the basic skills required for becoming a professional operator.
Participants see what it's like to be a professional applicator in this unique course. Students cover a wide range of topics and drive all the major brands of applicator equipment. Nearly all application mistakes can be attributed to human factors such as lack of knowledge, fatigue, distraction or the pressures they feel from employers, customers or the weather. The concept used in this course is unique and includes training exercises carried out to facilitate the learning process.
Simple Steps to Successful Applications
We wish to convey during the course what it's actually like to diligently perform the duties of an applicator. This includes a number of sessions that build over the four days of training - each adding to create a comprehensive thought process. Participants should graduate with the ability of evaluating the situation for each load/field and based on the facts - optimize the application utilizing the correct mixture of the tools and resources available to them. Sometimes this will include the decision to not spray or delay the application.
Three-Step Process
This course is designed as a "Three-Step" process to producing competent applicators:

Step 1: This course teaches the basic knowledge and general operator skills required of professional applicators.

Step 2: Upon returning home from this course, the equipment dealers's sales and/or technical representative should be scheduled to provide specific training for the machine the student will be assigned to operate.

Step 3: As the final step in the mentoring process, it's recommended the employer provide company-specific guidance to complete the operator's training.
