While overall confined space incidents were down slightly, 51 cases, a 7% drop from 2023, grain-related entrapments saw a sharp rise.
There were at least 34 grain entrapments last year—a 25% increase over 2023. Tragically, 22 of the 51 cases were fatal.
Indiana and Missouri led the nation with five confined space cases each, followed closely by Illinois, Nebraska, and Wisconsin with four each. Indiana also reported the most grain entrapments.
The spike in grain-related incidents is a sobering reminder that confined space hazards remain a serious risk. Ongoing training and focused prevention efforts are critical—especially around high-risk tasks like entering grain bins, manure storage areas, or transport vehicles.
Let’s keep safety top of mind. These numbers are more than data—they represent lives, families, and communities forever changed.
