The current FMCSA Medical Certificate Exemption is set to end on October 11, 2026. This exemption has allowed CDL drivers to rely on a paper copy of the medical examiner’s certificate as proof of the driver’s medical certification for up to 60 days after the date the medical examiner’s certificate was issued, not to exceed October 11.
FMCSA has stated that it does not anticipate granting additional nationwide National Registry II waivers or exemptions after the current exemption. Motor carriers should request motor vehicle records to ensure their driver’s medical information is up to date with the state. If it is not, your driver will not be qualified to drive after October 11.
