Standard protects employees by requiring machine guards.

Overview

One or more methods of machine guarding must be provided to protect employees from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks.

Some examples of guarding methods are:

  1. Barrier guards;
  2. Two-hand tripping devices; and
  3. Electronic safety devices.

 

Guards must be affixed to the machine where possible and secured elsewhere if not possible. The guard itself must not offer an accident hazard.
