Generators of hazardous waste are subject to many specific requirements, including: registration, reporting, accumulation limits based on time and amounts, storage, labeling and/or markings, testing, characterization, transporting, recordkeeping, disposal, etc. Please refer directly to the regulations (both state and federal) for more information.
A generator must not treat, store, dispose of, transport or offer for transportation, hazardous waste without having received an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identification number from the Administrator. A generator must not offer his hazardous waste to transporters or to treatment, storage or disposal facilities that have not received an EPA identification number. Generators who ship hazardous waste for off-site transfer, treatment, storage or disposal, must prepare a manifest. A signed copy of the manifest must be received from the designated facility which received the waste within 35 days of the date the waste was accepted by the initial transporter. Generators must keep a copy of each manifest, Biennial Report, records of test results, waste analyses or other determinations for at least three years from the date the waste was sent for disposal.
