Overview

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires those involved in the production and use of animal health products, animal feed and feed ingredients to have the responsibility to ensure these products meet regulatory requirements. All personnel involved in the manufacture, storage and handling of animal health products, feed and feed ingredients should be adequately trained and aware of their role and responsibility in preventing the spread of animal health and public health hazards. Appropriate contingency plans should be developed. Equipment should be maintained in good working order and in a sanitary condition.

Feed and feed ingredient manufacturers have a legal responsibility to ensure that every ingredient used in their products is safe for its intended use, and their products are not adulterated or misbranded. Medicated feeds must be manufactured in accordance with current good manufacturing practice regulations.
