Overview
Every commercial motor vehicle operated in interstate commerce must be marked with the name or trade name of the carrier and the motor carrier identification number issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), preceded by the letters “USDOT.” The markings must appear on both sides of the vehicle and be in letters that contrast sharply in color with the background. They also must be readily legible, during daylight hours, from a distance of 50 feet while the vehicle is stationary.
