Overview

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides requirements to help facilities prevent a discharge of oil into navigable waters or adjoining shorelines. Mobile or portable oil storage containers must be positioned to prevent a discharge. Except for mobile refuelers and other non-transportation- related tank trucks, a secondary means of containment, such as a dike or catchment basin, sufficient to contain the capacity of the largest single compartment or container with sufficient freeboard to contain precipitation, must be provided.
