Overview

Employers that use communications systems for support of day-to-day business activities, such as dispatching and diverting personnel or work vehicles, coordinating the activities of workers and machines on location or remotely monitoring and controlling equipment, are required to obtain a radio station license for frequencies listed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the Industrial/Business Pool. The FCC usually grants system licenses for a five-year term.
