Overview

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established containment regulations to protect human health and the environment from exposure to agricultural pesticides which may spill or leak from stationary pesticide containers. This protection is achieved by the construction of secondary containment units or pads at certain facilities handling agricultural pesticides. Employers must ensure that each lockable valve on a stationary pesticide container, is closed and locked, or that the facility is locked, whenever the facility is unattended. Some type of device must be installed on storage tank valves to secure the valves from tampering during non-business hours.
