Overview

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other personnel protection for those involved in the operation and maintenance of arc welding and cutting equipment. Workers or other persons adjacent to the welding areas must be protected from the rays by non-combustible or flameproof screens or shields, or must be required to wear appropriate goggles. When welding must be performed in a space entirely screened on all sides, the screens must be arranged so that no serious restriction of ventilation exists. It is desirable to have the screens mounted so that they are about two feet above the floor, unless the work is performed at so low a level that the screen must be extended nearer to the floor to protect nearby workers from the glare of welding. Booths and screens must permit circulation of air at floor level.
