The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requires Biennial Registration for Food Facilities. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires food facilities to renew such registrations during the period beginning on October 1 and ending on December 31 of each even-numbered year. With 2022 falling into that category, each facility must renew such registrations before the end of the year. This registration applies to domestic and foreign manufacturers, processors, packers or holders of food for human or animal consumption.
Types of food companies required to renew registration include grain-handling, feed manufacturing, grain processing, biofuels manufacturers, export facilities and a wide array of other domestic and foreign facilities that store, manufacture or process commodities used as food or feed in the United States. Please be advised that “updating” your registration is a different function than “renewing” your registration. There is no fee for initial registration, renewing a registration or updating a registration. In addition, all facilities must include a unique facility identifier (UFI) recognized as acceptable to FDA with the registration submission.
