The National Agronomic Environmental Health and Safety School was held August 20-21 in Bloomington at the Asmark Institute Agricenter. Almost 100 EHS&S professionals from 20 states attended and heard from a great variety of speakers on timely topics. Genevieve O’Sullivan, Vice President of Communications and Marketing with CropLife America, was the keynote speaker and kicked the school off well with a discussion on pesticide messaging and the power of a credible voice.
Sessions continued on best management practices for operating a containment facility, drones, state implementation of the drug and alcohol clearinghouse, OSHA’s new warehousing emphasis program, cautions around railroad tracks and utility wires, emergency response, incident investigations and implementing an emergency action plan.
Closing out the meeting was Purdue Pesticide Program Director, Dr. Fred Whitford, who talked about properly securing cargo and selecting straps and chains. The Safety School never fails to provide good information about relevant issues for ag retailers.
